Every Christmas there is one movie that is guaranteed a showing – it’s a movie we either love or hate, very few of us are indifferent to it. Based upon a true story it is indeed an epic and moving tale unfortunately I cannot claim to fall into the love or hate categories I sit firmly in there in the indifferent slot. As with other such TV programmes it was duly marked in the pre Christmas viewing schedule as a programme to, if it all possible avoid, unfortunately that did not allow for over indulgence and falling asleep in the chair before it commenced and awakening near the end of the performance.
We all are familiar with that wonderful period between sleep and waking where we drift in a semi aware state of that which is going on around us but reluctant to fully awake. I was in such a mental state when from somewhere on the edge of consciousness I heard the droning voice of daddy Von Trapp muttering something about singing a song that was dear to the hearts of all who loved Austria. Clearly I was in one of those places where I was aware of background sounds, but my thoughts were elsewhere, because with apologies to Rodgers and Hammerstein and daddy Von Trapp, the words of what should have been the romantic ditty Edelweiss played somewhat differently in my head.
“Global Door Global door
Ev’ry morning you greet me
Colour so bright
Reflecting Light
You look happy to meet me
Tall and Strong
You will last so long
Last maybe forever
Global Door Global door
Bless this company forever”
At which point I was vaguely aware of daddy Von Trapps voice breaking down and the massed ranks of the Von Trapp’s taking up the song, unfortunately it was still playing in my head as-
Global door Global door rather than the original Edelweiss
Now I am stuck with it, the words are etched on my brain. I told everyone of my experience when I returned to the office after the New Year break – it only took one person to try to sing along with the Global Door, Global Door lyrics and soon we were hooked, we had our own choir – now it seems to be everywhere people singing it at their desks, in the kitchen, the corridors etc what is worse people in adjoining offices have started to join in, some of them making up their own lyrics.
Try it for yourself you all know the tune sing along to the Global Door, Global Door lyrics – one more time now and see if it becomes equally addictive for you .
“Global Door Global door
Ev’ry morning you greet me
Colour so bright
Reflecting Light
You look happy to meet me
Tall and Strong
You will last so long
Last maybe forever
Global Door Global door
Bless this company forever”
