Technology is a Wonderful Thing…
That is until something goes wrong and at which there must be some unspoken and / or unwritten law that states “just when you have everything working some third party messes it up” – in this age of technology that third party no longer needs to be an individual it could simply be a set of consequences not quite artificial intelligence more along the line of cause and effect of a software glitch.
Here at GFD HQ we raised a huge sigh of relief when reviewing last week’s Business News, the article that caused us such concern was one referring to “Web Hosts 123” who while carrying out routine maintenance accidently deleted information contained on some of their servers – the knock on of which was to have a similar impact upon many of their clients stored web sites rendering them temporarily or in some instances possibly permanently disabled.
The whole question of storage of information is a major problem for the majority of companies such as ourselves here at GFD Group – too big to run our services from an in house server of reasonable cost and too small to afford the size of in house server that would make our independence secure we rely as so many companies do upon hosting companies such as the one named in this article.
The loss of active data is the nightmare scenario for any company involved in “e” commerce – even with one site the data collection and management requirements can be substantial s for companies such as ourselves at GFD which encompasses Timber Composite Doors, Global Door, Fusion Door, Composite Door Prices and for windows Global Sash Windows or if it’s just accessories your after Eurosecure and The Trade Village which as the name implies serves only the trade the loss of information over seven sites would not have good consequences for the company. Fortunately, we have a good IT team and pretty good “back up” facilities, so, although we can never say that this would never happen to us we have put in place all the failsafe’s and recovery plans that should allow us to prevent the interests of our customers at all times – because without the support and confidence of our customers we do not have a business.
Here at GFD HQ we provide ourselves on the quality of our web sites which we endeavour to make as user friendly and navigable as possible whilst still cramming them full of specification information and superb graphics because we are firmly of the belief that our customers need to know as much as possible about their intended purchase so that they can make an informed and correct decision.
