Bi fold doors all of this and much much more –
Just when you expect to see a photograph of a stylish set of bi- fold doors we spoil all of your fun – stylish photographs are an excellent sales point but only when the image is supported by a quality specification.
All of the above “icons” can be found on the Bi-fold doors “drop down menu” on the Global Door home page and they each define a characteristic that is essential to ensure that the specification and quality of your bi fold door will come up to your expectations. At Global Door, we have built our reputation on selling quality products – products that we have personally researched and vetted – our composite doors are market leaders and our customers comments on Trust Pilot would appear to support our approach.
With our reputation for checking and vetting to protect, is it really surprising that we start a blog with technical criteria rather than “stylish photographs”- so what do the “icons” actually mean
-the current Building Regulations for energy efficiency, which came into force in October 2010, covering front doors for the first time, requires that, all new doors sold and fitted in England and Wales must have a U-value of 1.8W/m2K (1.6W/m2K in Scotland) or less. The door’s U-value is a measure of its energy efficiency, and the lower the U-value, the more energy efficient the door.
-or to give Part L its full title “Approved Document L Conservation of Fuel and Power in new dwellings” a document which has comes in many options – new dwellings, existing dwellings etc etc and is very heavy reading many in simple terms it means that, if you buy any house in this country it should, by law, be so well-insulated and/or so heavily decked out with renewables that your heating bills per year should be minimal. Suffice to say our bi-fold doors meet with the required standard
-the previously noted “stylish” photographs can only be achieved by the use of elegant slimline profiles and at a width of only 132 mm our bi-fold door profiles are not only elegant but also provide theperfect slimline profile required to maximise the glazing available as unobtrusively as possible withot some “nasty big chunky frame blotting the view”
BS 6735 Part 1 will mean very little to the majority of individuals but it is key to determining the performance of doors and windows – for a window to be included in an exposure category the appropriate test pressures for air permeability, water tightness and resistance to wind are required to be achieved or exceeded, exposure categories vary with the relevent testing conditiond/criteria, the Blobal bi- fold door has achieved the noted relevent standards in accordance with its classification of test.
-the Industry recoginised standard for ecurity of doors and windows – which requires the product to withstand simulated attack conditions in order to achieve the standard
With the exception of “sightline” the other six icons represesnt an awful lot of testing to achieve the quality of product and performance that our customers would expect from a Global product – as we stated earlier a lot of research and vetting before it can carry the Global brand but when the finished and installed door looks as good as this – its worth it.
